How Is the AlSiC Material’S Environment Durability?
AlSiC material is the combination of SiC ceramic and Aluminum. One of the character the composite material possesses, is that although two different materials are combined, each of them still keep its own properties. SiC ceramic is still SiC itself, it would not change by combining into AlSiC. Al forms the matrix to bind the SiC bone together, which provide the AlSiC the ductility ceramic without. The AlSiC product is covered with a thin Al layer. Therefore, as long as Al endures, AlSiC endures also.
AlSiC first appeared in Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 60’s. The early products were mostly used in military and aerospace application. More than 50 year application proves the environment durability of AlSiC composite.
Well, there are isolated cases. Few products in market do show signs of harmful chemical reaction in their process indicating their producers have not passed test production stage.
